Replace your 08 number with a better alternative
08 number costs are changing. Customers using these numbers are advised to replace 08 numbers with one of these more attractive alternatives.
In response to public confusion over the cost of calling 08xx numbers (eg. 0844, 0845, 0870, 0871), Ofcom recently changed their pricing framework.
Many telecoms companies (both landline and mobile) are exploiting this by charging much more for calls to these numbers, making them unattractive for customers to call. When you depend on these numbers to attact customers this can make a substantial impact on your bottom line.
0870 numbers have been particularly hard-hit, as they were being charged at geographical rates (often free) but now will typically attract a charge of 50p/minute or more.

Your Options
Most of our customers using 08 numbers will want to change to something more affordable.
There are several options:
Switch to an 03 Non Geographic Number
Either 0333 xxx xxxx, 0345 xxx xxxx, 0370 xxx xxxx
These are non-geographic in nature, but geographic in their economics.

Switch to a Geographic 'Local' Number
More and more of our customers are going "old school" and reverting to numbers related to their area (or an area they aspire to!). These are also the best bet if you wish to be called from overseas.

Switch to a new 0800 Freephone Number
Ofcom got it right by insisting 0800 numbers are free to call, even from mobiles. 0800 numbers cost you a little more to receive calls on, but they send the message that you are prepared to go the extra mile to make life easy for your customers.

Cost to call: 'Not much' from BT landlines (it depends on what price plans the caller is on). It's usually taken from inclusive minutes. The same applies to UK mobiles.

Cost of ownership: The owner pays setup and regular rental fees. Call fees will apply on top, but may be very low for UK landline or VOIP termination.
dmClub 03 numbers cost between 1.0 and 1.25 ppmppm: pence per minute (ex VAT) to divert to UK landlines. Fowarding to VOIP is done without charge resulting in a fixed cost service
International accessibility: Good.
Regulatory issues: No special issues.
Mobile accessibility: Very good. Pricing of calls from mobiles to UK 03 numbers are one of the big attractions of the range.
Typical Applications: As a main 'switchboard number' for UK-wide companies.
03 numbers are very much in vogue these days, with public suspicion over misuse of the 08 number ranges.
With calls from mobiles being mostly without charge, 03 numbers (particularly Gold ones) are arguably 'the new 0800!'
